The Brass Lantern

Joel Nakamura spent a decade rewiring old homes in Seattle before he realized he was hoarding the fixtures he removed and couldn’t bear to discard. The Brass Lantern grew out of that habit. Joel knows how a Stiffel torchère was meant to be balanced, which Victorian ceiling rose needs a new canopy versus which one needs only patience, and exactly how patchy amber light from a 1920s sconce changes the feeling of a room. His workshop smell — solder and linseed — follows him to every show.
