Brass Wall Sconce with Silk Shade and Crystal Drop

A single ornate wall sconce with the kind of cast-brass backplate and leaf-form arm that belongs in a hallway you want to feel a little formal. The pleated silk shade softens the light to a candle-warm glow, and the faceted crystal drop beneath it does exactly what crystal is supposed to do when the bulb comes on. Joel took it out of a Port Townsend Craftsman where it had flanked a hall mirror for as long as anyone living could remember, rewired it to current code, and left the seventy-year patina on the brass untouched — because it would be a crime to do otherwise.
