Oil Painting — Puget Sound at Dusk, Unsigned

Unsigned, which could mean modest or could mean missing, but the painting doesn’t need a name on it to earn attention. The view is looking west from somewhere near the Kitsap shore — the light is very specific, that January gold that sits low and hits the water sideways, making the Sound look almost like hammered pewter. The brushwork in the foreground waves is confident and quick, the kind of mark made by someone who had painted this particular water before and knew where to simplify. The frame is original, a simple gilded wood that shows honest wear at the corners. Provenance unknown beyond a Kingston estate sale in 2024.
